What the follower count was actually doing
Once a post is attached to a permanent public identity with a visible audience number, everything you write passes through a filter: how will this land, who will see it, does it fit what people expect from me. That filter is why most feeds are so boring. It removes precisely the thoughts that were worth reading: the uncertain ones, the embarrassing ones, the ones you have not finished having.
Take the number away and the calculation collapses. There is no reputational position to defend, because there is no public position. What is left is the thing you actually wanted to say.
The cost is real and worth stating: anonymity lowers the barrier to being unpleasant as well as to being honest. That is why posts run through the same moderation as everything else, and why a behavioural reputation follows the account even though nothing follows the name.

Keep this in mind
Anonymous is not consequence-free
Posts are moderated, reportable, and count towards a reputation attached to your account. Anonymity here protects you from other users identifying you. It is not cover for harassment, and it never has been.

Comments and reactions are public to whoever can see the post. You can delete your own post at any time.

Can I post images?
Yes. Images pass through automated moderation before they are visible to others.
Do posts earn points?
Yes. Posts, comments and reactions all award points, each with a daily cap so that volume alone does not translate into progress.
Can I delete something I posted?
Yes. You control your own posts.
Is there a follower count?
No. There are no follower counts and no public audience metrics anywhere in the product. That is deliberate.
Should I post to the open feed or a Hive?
Use the open feed for one-off thoughts you want a wide audience to see. Post inside a Hive when the topic belongs to that community and you want the same people replying over time.
