Setting it up so it actually helps

Turn Smart Match on
Preference filters only apply in Smart Match. In Instant Match they are ignored entirely, a genuine source of confusion, so it is worth stating twice.

Set what you are looking for
Gender, age range and interests, chosen from chip rows rather than dropdowns.

Start wide, then narrow
Every filter you add shrinks the pool multiplicatively. Add one at a time and see what it does to your wait.

Tune the rematch cooldown
A short cooldown suits fast triage. A longer one nudges you to give a conversation more than four messages.
What no matching system can do
Filters operate on what people have told the system about themselves, which is not the same as what is true. Any platform claiming verified attributes on anonymous accounts is overstating what it knows.
What preference matching genuinely provides is a better starting distribution: meaningfully more relevant pairings than random, and considerably fewer conversations that were never going to work. That is a real improvement, and it is the honest size of the claim.

Gender and age chips
Selected from chip rows in settings, not dropdowns. Only applied in Smart Match. You need to set your own gender and age before the "Looking for" filters unlock.

Interest overlaps
Shared tags raise the chance of something to talk about. Optional, self-reported, and ignored entirely in Instant Match.

Rematch cooldown
A chip-row setting for how long before you can be randomly paired with the same person again. Applies in both modes. It nudges pacing; it does not lock you in.

Instant Match fallback
When Smart Match has waited long enough, switch it off in settings and take whoever is next. Your preferences stay saved for when you turn Smart Match back on.
Keep this in mind
When to switch modes mid-session
If Smart Match has sat empty for a while, especially late at night or with several filters active, Instant Match is the honest fix: someone now beats nobody. If Instant is giving you three mismatches in a row, flip Smart Match back on and let the filters work. Neither mode is a commitment.

Why is Smart Match slower?
Because it waits for someone who fits your preferences instead of taking the next person in the queue. The narrower the filters, the smaller the eligible pool, and the longer the wait.
Do my filters apply in Instant Match?
No. Instant Match deliberately ignores preference filters. That is the entire reason it is faster.
Are the preferences of other users verified?
No. They are self-reported, as they are on every anonymous platform. Treat them as a signal rather than a fact.
What is the rematch cooldown?
A chip-row setting for how long before you can be randomly paired with the same person again. It applies in both Instant and Smart Match.
Can I switch modes without losing my preferences?
Yes. Toggling Smart Match off switches to Instant Match immediately. Your gender, age, interests and "Looking for" filters stay saved and apply again when you turn Smart Match back on.
What should I do if Smart Match keeps waiting?
Try widening one filter, waiting for a busier time, or switching to Instant Match for that session. An empty queue usually means the pool is too narrow for who is online right now, not that matching is broken.
